On Lyon’s short list for management is Frank Lampard. According to sources, Olympique Lyonnais is thinking about making Frank Lampard its new manager.
Lyon, which is currently last in Ligue 1 after four games this season, announced on Monday that they and former manager Laurent Blanc had mutually agreed to end his contract.
Prior to the start of the international break, Lyon’s fans were humiliated 4-1 at home by PSG. After the game, Lyon’s fans passionately demanded that the playing team not disrespect the shirt of such a successful club.
According to 90min, ex-Chelsea head coach Graham Potter was offered the opportunity to succeed Blanc, but he declined after meeting with Lyon owner John Textor.
Lampard is reportedly a prospective candidate for Lyon’s search for another former Chelsea manager, according to 90min.
It is reported that Textor, who is also a co-owner of Crystal Palace, has high admiration for the former player. In recent years, Lampard has frequently been mentioned as a potential Eagles hire.
Since the conclusion of the 2022–23 season, when Mauricio Pochettino replaced Lampard as Chelsea’s temporary manager, Lampard has been without a job.
He began the previous campaign at Everton but was let go in January as the team was in danger of being demoted to the Championship.
After serving as Chelsea’s regular manager for one and a half years, Lampard accepted his first managerial role with Everton. In his lone full season in charge, he led the Blues to the FA Cup final and a top-four finish.
With Derby County, Lampard made his managerial debut in 2018–19. His Rams lost to Aston Villa in the Championship Playoff championship game.
Lampard is admired by Lyon, but he is not the only well-known player on their radar. According to 90min, they also have former Milan player Gennaro Gattuso on their short list.
Gattuso most recently served as Valencia’s manager, a position he departed in January 2023 after only a half-season.
The former Italy midfielder’s managerial career has been rocky. He was about to take over as Tottenham Hotspur’s head coach in 2021 when the club changed its mind in response to a fan uprising and gave Nuno Espirito Santo the position.
The same summer, Gattuso was appointed Fiorentina’s new manager, but they mutually decided to part ways two weeks before his contract started.
