Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo departed Stamford Bridge on Friday night in discomfort, according to writer Noah Robson.
The 21-year-old was gripping his knee after the game ended last night, he wrote on Twitter.
For Chelsea supporters, seeing a game end with their team winning was encouraging.
After Nicolas Jackson scored the game’s lone goal, the Blues moved on to the EFL Cup’s next round.
The Brighton team was very good, and Roberto de Zerbi fielded the best lineup he could from his large roster in order to defeat them.
Chelsea, though, advanced to the next round as a result of some excellent individual efforts.
In particular, Cole Palmer performed excellently in his first start wearing a Royal Blue jersey.
Caicedo escaped in pain. His involvement provided Enzo Fernandez with a much-needed break, but it very probably acted as a launching pad for future starts in the number 10 position.
Lesley Ugochukwu, who has been an important player at Stamford Bridge since his arrival in the summer, and Caicedo were the midfield pairing Pochettino chose to use with Fernandez out.
But the news wasn’t all good. According to Robson, the Ecuadorian midfielder was seen clutching his knee in the last seconds of play.
The speaker added, “Moises Caicedo is now clutching his knee.”
Despite never being a significant problem in his career, injuries have already threatened to derail the club-record deal since his arrival.
In order for him to play against Fulham on Monday night, supporters will be hoping that the injury is not too serious.
