Mourinho uses social media to share his opinions on former Chelsea players.
When three of his former Chelsea players got back together this week, Jose Mourinho couldn’t help but laugh and exclaimed, “Daddy is missing!”
During Mourinho’s first tenure as Chelsea manager, which spanned from 2004 to 2007, Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou, and John Obi Mikel all had significant roles for him. During that time, Chelsea won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and two League Cups.
Additionally, Drogba, Kalou, and Mikel got together this week for the Africa Cup of Nations draw. Mikel posted an Instagram photo of the group eating together. “Still no statues, but be careful!” After adding a caption, Mikel tagged his former teammates.
Mikel was addressed by several people, including Mourinho, who said, “Daddy is missing!” He added a heart emoji and stated, “You rich guys can enjoy your holiday time.” After a dispute with Manchester United, Mourinho purchased Mikel from Norwegian club Lyn for Chelsea in 2006.
In 2005, United announced that Mikel would be joining the team, and a news conference with the player donning a Red Devils jersey was scheduled. Mikel later remarked that joining Chelsea was “the best decision I have ever made.” Chelsea, however, hijacked the agreement.
“I don’t regret any decision I made because I enjoyed everything I achieved at Chelsea – it’s the best decision I have ever made in my life,” he said to BBC Sport Africa last year. I pre-signed a deal with Manchester United when I was 17 years old.
“Of course you will be tempted if you are a kid and you see Sir Alex Ferguson standing right in front of you with the contract.” Mikel lauded Mourinho’s impact on his career and said the Portuguese coach was effective in converting him from an attacking midfielder to a defensive midfielder.
“Mourinho decided that he wanted me to play the defensive midfield position,” the player stated. “He is the coach in the end and made the choice,”
We discussed it, and he felt that I should play defensive midfield because Chelsea had so many large midfielders in his roster. When [Claude] Makelele’s time at Chelsea was almost over, Mourinho wanted me to succeed him.
He continued to play 372 times for Chelsea, where he won four FA Cups, two League Cups, the Champions League, the Europa League, and the Champions League twice.
