After Saturday night’s 1-0 loss to Newcastle, manager Mikel Arteta made some remarks that Arsenal has since confirmed to be in agreement with.
Following VAR reviews for offside, a foul on Gabriel Magalhaes, and the ball remaining in the field of play, Anthony Gordon’s goal was declared valid. The Gunners suffered their first league loss of the year, but the Magpies held firm.
Arteta responded to the situation in a direct manner, calling it “a disgrace,” “embarrassing,” and “not acceptable.”
“Arsenal Football Club wholeheartedly supports Mikel Arteta’s post-match comments after yet more unacceptable refereeing and VAR errors on Saturday evening,” the statement continues.
“We also want to thank our players and the out-of-town fans for their outstanding effort and performance at St. James’ Park.
“With the greatest players, coaches, and fans in the world, the Premier League is the best league in the world, and they all deserve better. PGMOL must immediately address the officiating standard and concentrate on taking action that frees us all from looking back and making excuses and attempts at justification.
“We support the ongoing efforts of Chief Refereeing Officer, Howard Webb and would welcome working together to achieve the world-class officiating standards our league demands.”
Arsenal’s first league loss of the year has dropped them three points behind Manchester City, who are now leading the league; however, if Tottenham defeats Chelsea on Monday night, they might take a two-point lead.
Goalie David Raya, who was unable to clear the cross in the moments leading up to Gordon’s goal, also expressed his annoyance with Joelinton’s lack of punishment for “a big foul” on Gabriel.
Arsenal had lost against West Ham in the Carabao Cup midweek, making this their second straight loss. On Wednesday, when they meet Sevilla at the Emirates in the Champions League, they have the opportunity to resume their winning ways.

No mention of the horrendous tackle on Longstaff by Havertz which was a red all day nor the refusal of Arsenal captain to shake Lascelles hand at end of the game. EMBARRASSING!
