Piers Morgan strongly criticized VAR, claiming it’s “ruining football” following the disallowed goal for Brentford against Arsenal.
The incident occurred when Leandro Trossard seemingly scored for Brentford near the end of the first half. Bukayo Saka delivered a cross into the Brentford box, finding Gabriel Jesus, whose header was saved by Mark Flekken, only for Trossard to slot home the rebound. However, VAR intervened, ruling Trossard offside by a few inches from Jesus when he scored from the rebound, much to Arsenal’s frustration.
This decision left the Gunners tied at halftime and increased the pressure on them in the second half. Piers Morgan, a vocal Arsenal supporter, took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his disdain for VAR, writing, “FFS… VAR destroying football once more.”
Several Arsenal fans echoed his sentiments, labeling VAR as unfavorable to their team and lambasting its impact on the sport. Despite Arsenal’s tense moments in the second half, they secured victory with a late Kai Havertz goal from another excellent cross by Saka in the 89th minute.
