The refereeing lineup for Liverpool’s forthcoming Premier League match against Fulham has been finalized, with Stuart Attwell designated as the primary referee on the field and Paul Tierney selected as the principal video assistant referee (VAR).
Attwell’s appointment follows recent controversy in his VAR role during the Fulham vs. Wolves game, where decisions were disputed and even acknowledged as incorrect by match referee Michael Salisbury. Fulham manager Gary O’Neil expressed discontent, asserting that VAR hindered rather than assisted the referee.
Attwell’s performance in the forthcoming Liverpool vs. Fulham fixture will be closely monitored, with both fans and analysts hoping for a more seamless officiating process. Assisting Attwell on the field will be Richard West and James Mainwaring, while Tierney’s VAR team includes assistant Adam Nunn.
Tierney, notable among Liverpool supporters for the Brentford game in November, has faced both criticism and praise, underscoring the ongoing debate surrounding the effectiveness of VAR.
