The ex-Chelsea manager, previously considered unsuccessful, has had discussions with Manchester United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe regarding replacing Erik Ten Hag. This could be a pivotal moment in his career.

Ratcliffe had previously attempted to recruit Potter at Nice. The 48-year-old coach, however, had been holding out for a significant managerial opportunity, turning down the Sweden national team role and an offer from Stoke City.

Ten Hag had a successful debut season with Manchester United, securing a third-place finish and the Carabao Cup. However, he has faced challenges this year.

Despite trailing Manchester City by only six points in the Premier League, United is currently in sixth place and will be without key players for their upcoming match against Liverpool at Anfield.

Apart from Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, and Mason Mount, who are currently sidelined, the availability of Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw remains uncertain after both players sustained injuries in the Bayern loss.

Bruno Fernandes will also miss the trip to Merseyside due to suspension.
