“Ibomdailymail reports ’20 goals in 20 games this season’ – Pochettino urged to spend £60 million on acquiring a top striker. Chelsea has been informed that securing Sporting CP’s star Viktor Gyokeres in January will require matching his release clause.
The 25-year-old, linked with Chelsea, faces competition from Arsenal, a fellow London rival, for his signature. Sporting’s manager, Ruben Amorim, asserts that the Portuguese team won’t release Gyokeres and intends to challenge potential suitors to meet his €100 million (£86 million/$109 million) release clause.
Addressing the potential sale, the coach reportedly mentioned, ‘He will only leave if someone pays the buyout clause in January—otherwise he will stay,’ according to Fabrizio Romano.
Gyokeres, under contract with Sporting until 2028, arrived at the club during the summer transfer window from Coventry in the English Championship. He recently scored against Porto in the Primeira Liga, taking his tally to an impressive 17 goals in 19 matches across all competitions. The Swedish international spent three seasons at Brighton but had limited appearances due to loans at Coventry, Swansea, and St. Pauli before joining the latter in 2021.
While attempting to strengthen their attack, it remains uncertain if Chelsea will match the forward’s January release clause. The return of Christopher Nkunku, set to debut in the Carabao Cup against Newcastle as confirmed by Mauricio Pochettino, provides a much-needed boost for the goal-shy Blues.”
