Once a defender sold by Manchester City for a mere £350,000, Frimpong is now recognized as one of the world’s elite players, playing under Xabi Alonso in Germany.
Despite making only 21 appearances this season under the Spaniard, the 23-year-old has already netted seven goals and provided nine assists.
Notably, the Netherlands international has been involved in every goal while playing at right-back.
The player, raised at the City Football Academy alongside other talents like Phil Foden and Cole Palmer, exhibits remarkable offensive prowess for a natural defender.
Having made 41 appearances for the Manchester City Under-18 team, in addition to six appearances for the Under-19s and 21 for the Under-21s, Frimpong had registered three goals and seven assists in all those games. However, his productivity has soared to an extraordinary level under Alonso.
Jeremie Frimpong represents the type of player Pep Guardiola could use more of, as the Etihad Stadium staff constantly plan for the future to replace key players like David Silva, Sergio Aguero, and Vincent Kompany.
Reports suggest that Txiki Begiristain and the staff are eyeing long-term replacements for the 33-year-old Kyle Walker, with Reece James reportedly the top priority. Nonetheless, Frimpong could significantly bolster Guardiola’s squad at Manchester City if he sustains this exceptional level of performance.
In Germany, the Dutchman’s outstanding displays are hoped to continue, with Manchester City reportedly considering players like Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala, Joshua Kimmich, and Alphonso Davies for their future plans.
