Chelsea took a risk by considering selling a key player highly trusted by Mauricio Pochettino, a move that could have sparked the manager’s displeasure, as per a report.
This season at Stamford Bridge has been disappointing, with the club’s performance not aligning with their aspirations. Despite a hefty spending spree during the summer transfer window, bringing in several players like Axel Disasi, Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku, and Nicolas Jackson, the outcomes have not been entirely satisfactory.
While Palmer has shown promise, Lavia and Nkunku have dealt with injuries. However, most of the other signings have failed to live up to expectations, resulting in Chelsea being 12 points adrift of fourth place.
The Evening Standard reported that Chelsea plans to spend again in the upcoming transfer window. But to fund high-value acquisitions, the club will need to offload some players. Among those potentially up for sale are Trevoh Chalobah, Malang Sarr, Ian Maatsen, Marc Cucurella, and Armando Broja.
The situation becomes tricky with Conor Gallagher. Chelsea seeks £50 million for Gallagher’s transfer, but Pochettino is unwilling to let him go. Gallagher, a midfielder, has been a regular starter, impressing with his performances and even captaining the team in several games this season.
Pochettino’s high regard for Gallagher is evident in his comments, emphasizing the player’s significance to the team. Despite Chelsea’s apparent willingness to consider offers for Gallagher in the past, their valuation remains unchanged, indicating a potential willingness to let him leave if the right offer materializes.
