Tomorrow afternoon, Chelsea will face Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League, marking their first Christmas Eve clash in 28 years. However, Enzo Fernandez won’t be part of the selection for this Sunday’s game.
His absence from the Wolves match is a significant setback for the team, considering he has only missed one game across all competitions this season. Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea’s head coach, has provided an update on Fernandez’s condition.
Reportedly, the Argentine midfielder won’t be available due to a hernia issue on Christmas Eve. Pochettino mentioned this through Chelsea’s official website, expressing hope for Fernandez’s swift recovery during this busy holiday period.
Pochettino added, “We’ll assess his return as soon as possible. He felt unwell during the game, and we’ve identified it as a hernia. He’ll receive medical attention and won’t cause any disruption. We expect him to rejoin the team as soon as he’s fit.”
Fernandez’s absence against Wolves is anticipated, prompting the expectation of a different midfield formation for Chelsea. Recent reports have highlighted concerns about Fernandez’s form and his early departure from the Newcastle United game.
On a podcast, Steve Sidwell suggested that Fernandez might not currently represent a $100 million player but rather a $30 million one. Despite this, there’s optimism that the midfielder can rediscover his top form in the latter part of the season.
