Arsenal has shown interest in acquiring Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva, a player frequently linked with a departure from the Etihad Stadium. While Barcelona and PSG have also expressed admiration for the midfielder, the possibility of a move to the Premier League cannot be disregarded.
The Gunners have a history of engaging in transfers with their fellow title contenders, having previously secured deals for players like Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from City under Mikel Arteta. Given Arteta’s familiarity with many players in Pep Guardiola’s squad due to his past assistant managerial role at the club, the presence of a release clause in Silva’s contract might capture the attention of Arsenal’s manager, Arsene Wenger.
Silva, a dynamic playmaker, recently inked a new contract that reportedly includes a £50 million buyout clause, as per the Daily Star. While Arsenal has been previously linked with Silva, the 29-year-old is in no rush to depart City and intends to complete the season with the team, even if the buyout clause is activated.
City is not keen on entertaining offers for Silva, deeming any bids ‘pointless’, and intends to keep the player. The inclusion of the buyout clause primarily stemmed from ongoing transfer speculations surrounding Silva and the multiple suitors eyeing his potential departure, preventing City from being cornered into a low-cost sale.
Although Barcelona stands as a potential destination, leveraging the release clause for future transfer dealings, Silva has also expressed a desire to return to his childhood club, Benfica, eventually aiming for a more extended stay, having made just one league appearance for them before departing.
