When Manchester City faces Everton in the Premier League on Wednesday night, they anticipate Erling Haaland’s return from injury, hoping for his comeback.
Haaland, aged 23, missed the last three domestic games due to an ongoing foot problem. While City claimed victory at the Club World Cup last week, the Norwegian had to spectate from the sidelines. He was able to train independently in Saudi Arabia during that time.
The main concern surrounding City’s upcoming match against Everton revolves around Haaland’s fitness. Pep Guardiola previously stated Haaland had a 50/50 chance to play in the Club World Cup. However, his absence didn’t impede City’s success as they emerged victorious, scoring seven goals in two games. Nevertheless, Haaland remains a pivotal player for City, particularly in other competitions like the Premier League.
It might be prudent for Guardiola to rest Haaland for the Everton game and bring him on as a substitute in the second half if necessary to prevent any early setbacks.
Julian Alvarez, who shone in the Club World Cup final with two goals and an assist against Fluminense, is expected to lead City’s attack. He’ll receive support from Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, and Jack Grealish.
Regarding the team lineup, Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol are expected to join, while Rico Lewis and Nathan Ake are unavailable. The anticipated starting lineup for Manchester City against Everton (4-2-3-1) includes Ederson; Walker (captain), Stones, Dias, Gvardiol; Rodri, Kovacic; Bernardo, Foden, Grealish; with Alvarez leading the attack.
