John Terry has expressed his belief that the midfielder Manchester City acquired in 2014 surpasses Kevin De Bruyne in skill and prowess on the pitch.
Frank Lampard, in John Terry’s opinion, holds a higher standing as a player compared to Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne.
During an interview with GOAL (via Twitter), the Chelsea veteran was prompted to compare the former Everton manager with several celebrated midfielders, including De Bruyne.
Notably, Frank Lampard had a season-long stint at Manchester City, where he showcased his capabilities by scoring 11 goals and contributing six assists across all competitions in the 2014/2015 season.
This has sparked a debate in recent times about De Bruyne’s placement among the finest midfielders in English football, with questions arising about his standing in the pantheon of greats.
John Terry, however, asserted that his former Chelsea and England colleague, Frank Lampard, surpassed Kevin De Bruyne in midfield prowess.
“For me, it’s still Lamps,” he conveyed to GOAL (via Twitter).
When selecting midfielders such as Steven Gerrard, Paul Scholes, Mesut Ozil, Patrick Vieira, N’Golo Kante, Michael Essien, and Yaya Toure, the retired center-back prominently favored Frank Lampard.
Despite Kevin De Bruyne’s prominence as an iconic figure at Manchester City, John Terry’s preference for Frank Lampard over De Bruyne is understandable, given their time together dominating English football at Chelsea.
Nonetheless, in our assessment, the Belgian maestro holds an edge over the Englishman. De Bruyne has demonstrated an exceptional all-round game, having amassed nearly every accolade in club football.
While Lampard boasts a stronger goal-scoring record than Kevin De Bruyne, the latter excels as a playmaker, creator, and dribbler. Even in terms of defensive contributions, De Bruyne’s industriousness rivals Lampard’s, making the comparison heavily inclined toward the former.
