In September of the previous year, Phil Foden’s mother, Claire Rowlands, was arrested by the police after an incident at a nightclub where she reportedly knocked off a man’s baseball cap. The 44-year-old was taken into custody during a weekend in North Wales, where her intoxicated actions led to her being ejected from a nightclub, sparking a fight, as per Llandudno Magistrates’ Court.
Rowlands, who admitted to being intoxicated and acting disorderly, was accused of assaulting someone by bouncers at a nightclub. CCTV footage showed her playfully removing a man’s baseball cap and attempting to put it back on before being asked to leave. While her assault conviction was overturned, she received a £100 fine along with £85 in court costs and a £40 surcharge.
Addressing the judge, Rowlands explained, “I was intoxicated. It was merely lighthearted joking. I was just in shock that I may be in trouble for removing someone’s cap. I often pull this party trick where I knock someone’s cap off and put it back on.” She reportedly shouted at police to “f*** off” after being expelled from the club and acknowledged being confrontational during her police interview.
During the court proceedings, Rowlands stated, “I don’t drink much, but when I do, I make up for it. I resemble an animal.” The chairman of Llandudno Magistrates’ Court, Duncan Campbell, acknowledged her state of intoxication but emphasized the need for the prosecution to prove both the case and the intent to use force beyond a reasonable doubt. Ultimately, Rowlands was declared innocent.
Phil Foden, Rowlands’ son, is a highly accomplished football player with Manchester City, having made 31 senior team appearances and winning multiple awards, including the Champions League and five Premier League crowns.
