In the aftermath of the January transfer window closure, Manchester City has undergone changes in its Premier League squad. Reflecting Pep Guardiola’s tendency for a measured approach in January, the club secured the signing of Claudio Echeverri from River Plate, although he will continue on loan at the Argentine club until 2024.
However, the departure side has seen notable moves. Goalkeeper Zack Steffen, who faced challenges during his time with City, signed a permanent deal with MLS team Colorado Rapids after a loan spell at Middlesbrough last season.
Additionally, Kalvin Phillips, formerly of Leeds United, left City on loan to West Ham due to limited opportunities in the first team, particularly with Rodri frequently favored by Guardiola in the defensive midfield position.
These exits translate to a reduction in City’s Premier League squad size. The departure of Steffen and Phillips means the squad will be two players short when submitted for the second half of the season, aligning with the Premier League’s authorized limit of 25 players.
As a result, MEN Sport estimates that 18 players will be included in the squad, with notable exclusions being U21 players such as Josko Gvardiol, Oscar Bobb, and Rico Lewis. The adjusted squad is anticipated to contribute to City’s strategic lineup for the upcoming fixtures.
