Recent reports indicate that David de Gea rejected an offer to join a Premier League club during the January transfer window.
The Spanish goalkeeper, who departed Manchester United last summer after a 12-year tenure, is currently without a club. While there were talks of a move to Saudi Arabia, De Gea has yet to finalize any deal.
Nottingham Forest made an attempt to secure the services of the experienced goalkeeper. They tried to convince De Gea of the benefits of playing regular football for them until the end of the season. However, the 33-year-old declined their “short-term” offer, preferring to explore other options.
In addition to pursuing De Gea, Forest inquired about Aaron Ramsdale’s availability at Arsenal. Ramsdale, who lost his starting position to David Raya, was a target for Forest until they signed Matz Sels from Strasbourg.
Sels joined the City Ground for £5.1 million on deadline day, signing a three-and-a-half-year contract. With Sels’ arrival, Forest now boasts a goalkeeper roster that includes Matt Turner, Wayne Hennessey, and Odysseas Vlachodimos.
De Gea’s refusal of their offer means he is still on the lookout for a new club. Despite the closure of the transfer window, the Spaniard remains a free agent and can join a team outside of it.
Throughout his illustrious career with Manchester United, De Gea appeared in 545 games across all competitions. He played a significant role in the club’s success, contributing to victories in the Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and Europa League.
Additionally, he earned 45 caps for the Spanish national team. With his wealth of experience and proven track record, De Gea remains an attractive option for potential suitors as he continues his search for a new club.
