Ghana manager Chris Houghton has acknowledged his ongoing interest in securing the international commitment of Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah, who recently made his debut for England in Friday’s friendly win over Australia.
Despite Nketiah’s extensive youth career with England, he only recently earned his first senior cap under Gareth Southgate, appearing as a substitute for Ollie Watkins in the final 17 minutes of the friendly match.
As Nketiah has yet to feature in a competitive fixture for England, he remains eligible to switch his allegiance, with Ghana expressing their desire to recruit players on the fringes of England’s squad.
Although Nketiah could solidify his status as an England international by playing against Italy in Tuesday’s European qualifier, Houghton issued a late plea to the Arsenal striker, acknowledging that some players are undecided about their international futures and emphasizing that the decision ultimately rests with the player.
While Ghana has successfully secured the commitments of London-born players Tariq Lamptey and Antoine Semenyo, they continue to pursue Nottingham Forest winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, who has represented England three times but has not featured for the Three Lions since 2019.
Hudson-Odoi has expressed his contemplation over his international allegiance, highlighting Ghana as an appealing option but indicating a willingness to see how his situation evolves before making a decision.
