Manchester United’s attempt to sign Victor Osimhen encounters a hurdle as PSG has reportedly identified the Napoli forward as a replacement for the departing Kylian Mbappe.
The Athletic reports that Manchester United’s pursuit of Osimhen could be thwarted due to Mbappe’s impending departure from Paris Saint-Germain.
Mbappe’s departure, especially on a free transfer when his contract ends in the summer, is viewed as a significant loss for PSG.
However, PSG appears to have been preparing for Mbappe’s exit since January, with Osimhen being high on their list of potential replacements, according to The Athletic.
Last month, Napoli’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, confirmed Osimhen’s imminent departure. If PSG secures the Nigerian forward, it could pose a major setback for United.
PSG currently has a strong lineup of center-forwards, including Goncalo Ramos and Randal Kolo-Muani.
Although Osimhen, 25, hasn’t matched his goal tally from the previous season, he remains one of Europe’s top strikers, having scored eight goals in 18 appearances for the Serie A champions this season.
Apart from PSG, Osimhen is expected to attract interest from Chelsea and Arsenal in the upcoming transfer window as they seek their own star player.
