Manchester United News and Transfer News | The Peoples Person: Sir Jim Ratcliffe “aspires” to “entrust” Manchester United to Zinedine Zidane
As Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United grows increasingly uncertain, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe reportedly aims to enlist former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane.
On Sunday, United suffered a 2-1 defeat to Fulham at Old Trafford, marking their tenth Premier League loss of the season.
Goals from Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi compounded Ten Hag’s woes and intensified scrutiny on the Dutchman.
In addition to the results, Ten Hag has faced criticism over United’s style of play—or lack thereof.
Facing Fulham was a daunting task, and United faltered. The team’s performances have not been convincing enough, even in victories.
Gary Neville recently discussed Ten Hag and the challenge he faces in retaining his job with INEOS at the helm.
The United legend suggested that figures like Sir Dave Brailsford and Daniel Ratcliffe might have already made a decision regarding Ten Hag and are awaiting the opportune moment to reveal their choice.
The 20-time English champions have been linked with Julian Nagelsmann, while Roberto De Zerbi of Brighton has also been mentioned as a potential candidate.
According to Foot Mercato, landing Zidane is Ratcliffe’s ultimate objective.
“Setting lofty aspirations, Sir Jim Ratcliffe will spare no effort to restore Manchester United to the pinnacle of English and European football.” The INEOS CEO prefers Zinedine Zidane to lead his team over Erik Ten Hag in pursuit of this goal.
“The billionaire has not officially backed the current coach, Erik Ten Hag, who is under pressure. This is troubling news, especially as INEOS is purportedly seeking a new head coach to help Manchester United secure an English championship for the first time in eleven years.
“According to our sources, INEOS simply dreams of entrusting Zinedine Zidane with the reins of Manchester United,” the tabloid continues.
While Zidane has previously been considered by United, Santi Aouna and Sebastien Denis note that the circumstances are quite different this time around.
United now boasts of Jean-Claude Blanc’s influence. Blanc attempted to lure Zidane to Paris Saint-Germain during his tenure at the dominant Ligue 1 side.
Blanc is said to hold a great deal of respect for the 51-year-old coach.
Zidane, widely regarded as one of the best players of his generation, achieved considerable success as both a player and manager, notably winning multiple La Liga titles and UEFA Champions League trophies with Real Madrid.
