Recent speculation indicates that Thomas Tuchel, the former manager of Chelsea, is eyeing a possible return to the club amid uncertainties surrounding Mauricio Pochettino’s future at Stamford Bridge.
With Pochettino under scrutiny, talks of a managerial change at Chelsea in the upcoming summer have surfaced. The club is allegedly preparing to part ways with the former Tottenham and PSG manager, who remains under contract until June 2025, with an option for an additional 12 months. A shortlist of potential replacements, including Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi and Sporting CP, has already been compiled.
Despite not being initially considered for the role, Tuchel is reportedly eager to re-enter the fray, despite his abrupt departure from Chelsea around 18 months ago, coinciding with the arrival of new owner Todd Boehly.
According to Footballwave, Tuchel is aspiring for a return to Stamford Bridge. It is certain that the 50-year-old will be exploring new opportunities in the summer, with his exit from Bayern Munich already confirmed following a disappointing campaign.
While his recent stint at Bayern may have dimmed his reputation, Tuchel undeniably boasts an impressive track record at Chelsea. During his previous tenure from January 2021 to September 2022, he achieved a remarkable win percentage of 60%, surpassing interim managers like Graham Potter (39%) and Pochettino (46%). Since Carlo Ancelotti’s departure in 2011, only Antonio Conte (65%) and Maurizio Sarri (62%) have achieved higher win percentages as full-time Chelsea managers.
However, whether Boehly would entertain Tuchel’s return, given their past relationship, remains uncertain. Tuchel’s reputation for being somewhat distant could potentially influence Boehly’s deliberations regarding his potential comeback to Chelsea.
