VAR reviewed the incident but upheld referee Michael Oliver’s decision of no penalty, leading to Liverpool settling for a draw.
Former official Dean, appearing on Sky Sports commentary, believed it might have been a penalty, describing Doku as ‘very, very fortunate’.
However, Klopp seemed to sarcastically acknowledge Dean’s role with the broadcaster and hinted at finding a way to avoid awarding it.
In his post-match interview with Sky Sports, the Liverpool manager insisted it was ‘100 percent’ a foul and that Doku should have been booked.
Klopp then quipped, “You’ll find people… I think you hired Mike Dean; is he now working for Sky? Congratulations; it’s a great appointment, by the way.
“He’ll find something, as will the others. It’s a punishment for everyone in the world who plays football. If you don’t think it’s one, you may not be a football fan.”
Liverpool fans on social media applauded his apparent jab at Dean, with one on X stating, “Shots fired.”
“Klopp’s I Don’t Give A F*** Farewell Tour is endlessly entertaining,” another person commented. “Mike Dean casually two-foots here just because he can.”
A third person said, “This completely killed me. Klopp’s sticking it to Mike Dean.”
“Klopp firing shots at Mike Dean too, I thought I couldn’t love the guy anymore than I already did,” continued another.
Former Liverpool player Daniel Sturridge left the Sky Sports studio in stitches with a joke about his blazer.
City took the lead at Anfield when Kevin De Bruyne delivered an excellent corner from the right to John Stones, who scored from close range.
Liverpool equalized through a Mac Allister penalty following Ederson’s foul on Darwin Nunez, who was substituted due to injury sustained in the incident.
The penalty appeals came deep into stoppage time, and the Reds failed to capitalize on the resulting corner.
Klopp’s side is tied with Arsenal at the top of the standings, but only by goal difference, with City trailing in third by one point.
