Arsenal’s injury worries under Mikel Arteta appear to be manageable, with only a handful of key players currently dealing with notable injuries, offering a positive outlook for the club during the March international break.
One such concern arose with Brazilian winger Gabriel Martinelli, who was substituted during Arsenal’s 6-0 win over Sheffield United earlier this month due to a foot injury.
Arteta addressed Martinelli’s injury along with other squad considerations following the victory. However, signs of relief emerged when Martinelli was seen using crutches after Arsenal’s 2-1 win against Brentford, suggesting a cautious approach to ensure proper healing.
Ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Porto, Arteta provided an update on Martinelli’s status, indicating his absence from training but expressing hope for his recovery.
Martinelli’s withdrawal from the Brazil squad for March internationals against England and Spain further emphasized the seriousness of his injury, with other key Selecao players also sidelined due to knocks.
Despite the setback, there is optimism that Martinelli will be fit for Arsenal’s crucial Premier League clash against Manchester City after the international break, a fixture where he previously proved decisive with a winning goal in October.
Throughout the season, the 22-year-old has been a key contributor for Arsenal, featuring in 25 Premier League matches and demonstrating versatility with six goals and four assists from the left wing.
His performances in the Champions League against Sevilla and Lens have also been noteworthy, highlighting his significance to Arteta’s squad.
