As Mauricio Pochettino grapples with injury setbacks, Chelsea has issued a fresh injury update ahead of their Premier League clash against Everton at Stamford Bridge this Saturday.
In his debut season with the team, the Argentine manager has faced a slew of injury woes. Not only have key players like Wesley Fofana and Romeo Lavia endured long-term injuries, but Reece James and Christopher Nkunku have also been sidelined for significant portions of the campaign.
Chelsea is hopeful of welcoming back a few players ahead of Monday night’s showdown with Everton. Pochettino is expected to provide an update on Malo Gusto, who was absent from the previous game, and Cole Palmer, who was forced off the pitch against Sheffield United last weekend.
However, the duo was conspicuously absent from the team’s latest injury report. Chelsea revealed three new additions to Pochettino’s injury concerns on Friday.
Robert Sanchez and Raheem Sterling are both listed as “absent due to sickness.” Meanwhile, despite featuring in 78 games together this season, Enzo Fernandez and Axel Disasi are doubtful for Monday’s fixture.
According to the update, both players are “undergoing medical evaluation.” During Friday’s pre-match press conference, Pochettino expressed uncertainty regarding their availability.
“We’ll have to wait and see. They are undergoing assessment,” he stated. “They are facing various issues. While we don’t believe they are serious concerns, we will assess their availability.
“We are unsure as they haven’t trained since Sheffield United.”
On a positive note, Ben Chilwell has returned to “partial team training,” hinting at a potential return to action at Stamford Bridge. However, Lesley Ugochukwu (hamstring), James (hamstring), Lavia (thigh), Nkunku (hamstring), Levi Colwill (toe), and Fofana (knee) remain sidelined as they “continue their rehabilitation programs.”
