Additionally, Dean Jones mentioned on Tuesday that Erling Haaland might leave Manchester City at the end of next season to join Barcelona. On the same day, news emerged that Ederson Moraes might depart the team in the summer.
Journalist: Man City star may move to MLS next year
On the Ranks FC podcast, Dean Jones stated that Kevin De Bruyne might move to Major League Soccer (MLS) after the next season.
“I think it’s not just Pep [Guardiola] that quits next season,” Jones said. “I believe Kevin De Bruyne will likely stay with Man City for one more season before joining MLS.”
According to a February report, Kevin De Bruyne had two plans for the summer of 2024: either sign a contract extension and retire at City or eventually join MLS.
Given that the £54.5 million man’s Manchester City contract expires in 2025, he may have made up his mind.
De Bruyne might follow Kroos’ lead.
If Kevin De Bruyne decides to join an MLS team once his contract expires, he may have the same career outlook as Toni Kroos.
The official Real Madrid website confirmed on Tuesday that Kroos has decided to retire, with the 2024 European Championship being his final football match.
Even if he remains among the world’s best players, the German likely wanted to conclude his career on a high note.
Although De Bruyne’s retirement plans are still unknown, he would leave European football as one of the finest players in the world if he signed with an MLS team next year.
Especially as a club legend, he wouldn’t want to eventually become a liability to his squad as his sharpness and agility decline.
As Manchester City’s next generation of offensive midfielders develops, De Bruyne might be getting comfortable with the idea that players like Oscar Bobb and Phil Foden may eventually succeed him.
Similarly, Toni Kroos is ready to pass the reins at Real Madrid to players like Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni.
