Cesc Fabregas, the former Chelsea midfielder and current Como manager, recently revealed the purpose of his visit to Chelsea’s training facility last week, which sparked speculation about his potential candidacy for the managerial position. However, Fabregas clarified that his visit was merely a social call and expressed shock at Mauricio Pochettino’s sudden departure from the club.
Pochettino’s exit, which was announced on Tuesday night with “mutual consent” after just 11 months in charge, came as a surprise to many, including Fabregas. Despite a challenging campaign, Chelsea finished the season strongly, winning five consecutive games to secure a spot in Europe, and also reaching the Carabao Cup final and FA Cup semi-final.
Fabregas, who spent an hour and a half at Cobham on Friday, described the atmosphere as “laid-back” and “positive,” with no indication that Pochettino’s tenure was about to come to an end. He praised Pochettino, calling him a “gentleman” and a “great guy,” and emphasized the difficulty of commenting on internal matters without being present.
The search for a new manager is currently underway at Chelsea, with several names being linked to the position. Despite the unexpected turn of events, the club will be looking to build on the positives from last season and make a strong start to the new campaign. Fabregas’s remarks have put to rest any speculation about his potential involvement, and the focus now shifts to finding a suitable replacement for Pochettino.
