Pep Guardiola will depart Manchester City in the summer of 2025, and the club has already compiled an impressive shortlist of four potential replacements.
Under Guardiola’s leadership, Man City secured their fourth consecutive Premier League title this season. Since his arrival at the Etihad in 2016, Guardiola has won an impressive six league titles.
However, according to The Daily Mail, Guardiola is expected to step down as Man City’s manager at the end of the next season. With only a year left on his current contract, sources suggest he will leave when it expires.
Having led the team to 15 major trophies, including the club’s first Champions League victory, Man City is giving Guardiola time to weigh his options and hopes he will continue in his role.
The club’s management notes that no official decision has been made, but there is concern that his ninth year might be his last.
Before appointing a successor, club executives are considering four candidates. According to the source, Xabi Alonso, Roberto De Zerbi, Julian Nagelsmann, and Michel of Girona are all in the running to succeed Guardiola in the summer of 2025.
Nagelsmann, a former Bayern Munich manager, is contracted through 2026 and will lead Germany in Euro 2024. Alonso has earned high praise for his success at Bayer Leverkusen, despite declining the chance to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. De Zerbi, who left Brighton, is also highly regarded by Guardiola.
