Julian Alvarez, the Manchester City striker, has responded to Pep Guardiola’s latest remarks during a recent press conference, as his future with the club remains uncertain.
The Etihad Stadium head coach was questioned about Alvarez’s earlier comments regarding his future at Manchester City, amidst increasing uncertainty and growing interest from Atletico Madrid.
The 24-year-old acknowledged his limited playing time last season but felt he should have been included in more significant matches, expressing disappointment at being overlooked despite his goal-scoring performance.
Alvarez revealed he will consider his future at the club after the Olympic Games in Paris this summer. In response, Pep Guardiola said during a Monday night press conference, “I am aware that he desires to participate in significant moments, but so do the other players.
We have 18 to 19 athletes who are interested in participating in the significant events. I have read that he needs to contemplate the matter. Therefore, I will allow him to do so, and he will subsequently inform us of his intentions.”
After Argentina’s 0-2 victory over Ukraine at the Olympic Games on Tuesday afternoon, Julian Alvarez was asked by TV Publica if he had heard Pep Guardiola’s response to his initial comments.
“Certainly, I was aware of Pep Guardiola’s statement,” Alvarez said. “I have little to say. I have never made any erroneous statements. I have consistently maintained that I am exceedingly content and at ease at Manchester City.
“It was merely an examination of the previous season and an assessment of what may occur in the future.
That concludes the matter. That is what I meant when I said I would contemplate it, as we always do each year. Therefore, that concludes the matter.”
Currently, it is uncertain whether Atletico Madrid will increase their interest in the former River Plate frontman.
Manchester City is considering an initial transfer fee of approximately €70 million, with an additional €20 million in add-ons.
City officials may demand favorable clauses, such as a buy-back or sell-on percentage, in any agreement to complicate negotiations with Atletico Madrid, as seen with other departures from the Etihad.
Manchester City will likely use the transfer market to find an appropriate successor for Julian Alvarez should they reach an agreement with the Spanish team.
