Arijanet Muric’s Premier League debut for Ipswich at the Etihad will likely go down as one of the worst.
Facing Pep Guardiola’s four-time champions is a daunting task in itself, and with Erling Haaland in top form, the challenge becomes even greater.
Ipswich, on their first league visit to Manchester City in 24 years, had high hopes, especially with Muric making his debut following a £15 million move from Burnley.
The 25-year-old had previously played for City and featured in the Carabao Cup under Guardiola.
However, Muric, who was previously in the spotlight for a notable mistake with Burnley against Brighton last season, made critical errors that derailed Kieran McKenna’s team.
The match was tied at 1-1 when Muric, under pressure, lost possession to Savinho, allowing Kevin De Bruyne to score into an open net.
Moments later, Muric made another rash decision, leaving his goal to challenge a pass from De Bruyne, only for Haaland to easily head the ball past him and score into an empty net, marking his second goal of the day.
Instead of being the reliable figure Ipswich needed, Muric lost his composure, contributing to their defeat against a City side that needs no help to score goals.
