Manchester City’s pursuit of Jamal Musiala has gained traction as they prepare for Kevin de Bruyne’s potential departure.
Musiala’s future at Bayern Munich is now uncertain after he rejected the club’s latest contract offer. The 21-year-old, who has been with Bayern since 2019, is entering the final year of his contract at the Allianz Arena.
Reports suggest Musiala is seeking a weekly wage of around £300,000, which his representatives believe reflects his current status in the league.
City has been closely monitoring his progress for a year and is now considering making a move to lure him away from Bayern.
However, they face competition from Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Real Madrid, with the latter seen as City’s main rival for his signature.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich and Musiala are still in talks over a new contract. Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, confirmed ongoing negotiations, expressing the club’s desire for Musiala to become a key player for them, with ambitions of winning national titles and the Champions League.
Musiala’s current market value is around £120 million, which would make him a record signing for a British club. In contrast, De Bruyne was linked with a potential move to Saudi Arabia earlier this summer.
If Musiala rejects a new contract, City could try to sell him during the January transfer window to recoup some funds before his contract expires in the summer of 2025.
