The game unfolded as anticipated, with Arsenal controlling possession from the start, while Leicester City, nicknamed the Foxes, found themselves on the defensive.
Arsenal’s first big chance came 15 minutes in when Gabriel Martinelli found himself in a good position. However, he hesitated, trying to switch to his left foot, giving Leicester’s defense time to close him down.
Five minutes later, Martinelli made up for it. This time, he didn’t hesitate, striking the ball with his right foot from the center of the box. Though the shot was mishit, it still rolled into the corner of the net, giving Arsenal the lead and marking Martinelli’s first goal of the season, a potential confidence booster.
Arsenal kept up the pressure, dominating possession and winning several corners, but they struggled to penetrate Leicester’s solid and physical defense.
The Foxes weren’t afraid to make tough tackles, leading to a few yellow cards. Ten minutes before halftime, Kai Havertz had a chance with a diving header that narrowly missed the goal.
Despite earning five corners in the first half, Arsenal couldn’t break through, as Leicester’s defense crowded the box. The half was relatively quiet until just before the break when Martinelli found space on the left and crossed to Leandro Trossard, who finished clinically to double Arsenal’s lead. At this point, Leicester seemed out of the game.
However, the second half took a surprising turn. Within a minute of the restart, Leicester launched an attack, and William Saliba fouled Jamie Vardy, receiving a booking.
From the resulting free-kick, Leicester equalized when a header deflected off Gabriel’s shoulder, leaving Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya with no chance. The match was suddenly wide open again.
Arsenal quickly regained control, with Bukayo Saka delivering a dangerous corner that Gabriel headed towards goal, only for Leicester keeper Hermansen to make a great save.
Minutes later, Saka set up Trossard beautifully, but Hermansen pulled off another impressive save to keep Leicester in the game.
Arsenal dominated possession for much of the second half, but Leicester grew more confident as the match progressed. Facundo Buonanotte made a strong run down the left, though his shot didn’t trouble Raya.
Leicester’s rising confidence paid off when Jossie scored a stunning volley, leveling the game at 2-2 with 25 minutes left.
Arsenal pushed hard for a third goal but missed several chances from corners. Havertz found himself in a promising position but shot straight at Hermansen, who made yet another crucial save. Arsenal earned their 11th corner with 18 minutes to go, but Gabriel’s header was blocked again.
Leicester’s keeper made a poor clearance soon after, handing the ball to Declan Rice, who set up Trossard for a golden chance, but Hermansen redeemed himself with another save. Leicester responded with a speculative shot from Wilfred Ndidi, their fifth effort compared to Arsenal’s 29, but the score remained 2-2 as time ran down.
In the final moments, Saka attempted one of his signature inside runs but was fouled on the edge of the box. However, the referee waved play on, a call likely to spark debate.
Mikel Arteta brought on Ethan Nwaneri for the final five minutes, and the young player almost made an immediate impact, nearly scoring as Arsenal pushed for a winner.
Arsenal had one last chance with a corner, and Luca Calafiori rose for a perfect header, but Hermansen once again made the decisive save, ensuring the game ended 2-2. Despite Arsenal’s dominance, they couldn’t find the winner, and the points were shared.
