Liverpool may face Manchester City on Sunday without six key players, following injuries sustained in their 2-0 victory over Real Madrid on Wednesday.
Both Conor Bradley and Ibrahima Konate suffered setbacks, with Konate later indicating on Instagram that his knee injury could keep him sidelined for a while.
“Getting injured after such a great game is frustrating,” Konate shared. “I’m beginning my recovery now and promise to come back stronger. Thanks for the incredible support at Anfield. Inshallah, we’ll keep pushing forward, and I’ll support the team all the way.”
Bradley is believed to have sustained a hamstring injury, which might open the door for Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez to feature in the lineup.
Alexander-Arnold, recently back from his own hamstring issue, was an unused substitute against Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Harvey Elliott has returned from a fractured foot but hasn’t played since late August.
Liverpool had hoped their injury situation would improve after the November international break, with players like Elliott expected to rejoin training.
Federico Chiesa has participated in partial sessions but is not yet match-ready, while Diogo Jota and Alisson Becker are also recovering from long-term injuries. Additionally, Kostas Tsimikas is out with an ankle issue, leaving Jarell Quansah as the only senior defensive backup.
Despite these setbacks, Liverpool have managed their injury challenges better than rivals like Manchester City and Arsenal, whose absences have drawn more attention. Manager Arne Slot remains positive, emphasizing his squad’s depth and resilience.
“Injuries happen throughout a season,” Slot said after losing Konate and Bradley. “If they can’t play, others will step up, as they have all season.”
Slot also highlighted that injuries often go unnoticed when results are favorable. “We’re missing key players like Alisson, Jota, and Trent, but the replacements have performed so well that it hasn’t become a talking point,” he said.
As Konate and Bradley join the injury list, Liverpool await the return of players like Chiesa, Alisson, and Jota. For every player recovering, another seems to face a setback.
Nevertheless, Slot remains confident his team will rise to the occasion on Sunday and keep injuries from overshadowing their pursuit of Premier League success.
