Arsenal faced a challenging opening 25 minutes against Crystal Palace, conceding a goal and narrowly escaping a second. However, the biggest blow was the injury to Bukayo Saka, a key figure in their attack.
Saka, who has started 16 of Arsenal’s 17 Premier League matches this season, missed only one game—a 2-0 loss to Bournemouth in October.
Known for his toughness, the 23-year-old often endures heavy challenges from defenders but typically gets back up to drive Arsenal forward.
In this match, which Arsenal ultimately won 5-1, Saka couldn’t continue after sustaining a hamstring injury in the first half.
The injury occurred in the 25th minute after Saka delivered a cutback pass to Martin Ødegaard in the Palace penalty area.
Tyrick Mitchell’s challenge left Saka on the ground, clutching his hamstring. After a brief assessment by the medical team, manager Mikel Arteta substituted him.
Arteta offered little detail post-match, stating, “He felt something. It’s too early to assess him. It was a precaution right now.”
This cautious approach underscores Saka’s importance to Arsenal, as he has been instrumental this season with a team-high five Premier League goals and ten assists, leading the league in assists.
Leandro Trossard replaced Saka but lacks the same level of creativity and consistency. Despite the setback, Arsenal rallied, with Gabriel Jesus scoring twice around an Ismaïla Sarr equalizer to secure a dominant victory.
Arsenal will now hope Saka can recover during the festive fixtures. Their next match is at home against Ipswich Town on 27 December, followed by a New Year’s Day trip to Brentford and a tough away game at Brighton on 4 January. Saka’s quick return will be crucial as Arsenal looks to maintain their momentum.
