Looking back at January, Arsenal’s pressing need for a reliable center-forward was clear. Their lack of a consistent striker during the festive period likely played a role in them falling short of the league title.
In December, Arsenal faced West Ham and, despite creating 30 chances, failed to find the net and suffered a defeat. This game highlighted their struggle to convert opportunities into goals at the time.
However, Arsenal’s form improved significantly in the second half of the season as they competed with Manchester City for the Premier League title.
In the return fixture against West Ham, Arsenal scored six goals. While they ultimately missed out on the title, they finished the season as the league’s second-highest scorers with 91 goals.
This raises the question: does Arsenal still need a new striker? While the urgency may have diminished, recent reports point to some intriguing developments.
Arsenal’s Search for a Striker
Initially, it seemed Arsenal would secure Slovenian striker Benjamin Šeško this summer.
The RB Leipzig forward reportedly had a reasonable release clause, and Arsenal appeared poised to trigger it. However, Šeško is now set to remain in Germany and sign a new contract with Leipzig.
With Šeško off the table, Arsenal has turned their attention to Swedish forward Viktor Gyökeres. The Sporting striker has been on their radar for some time, but now Arsenal has intensified their efforts.
Reports suggest Gyökeres is “on the verge” of joining the club, indicating that a deal may be close.
