Mikel Arteta has disclosed that Arsenal are exploring internal options to address Bukayo Saka’s absence but remain open to making a January transfer if an exceptional opportunity arises.

On Monday, Arteta confirmed that Saka will be sidelined for several weeks due to a hamstring tear. He also revealed that the team will be without winger Raheem Sterling, who is nursing a knee injury.

Despite these setbacks, Arteta stressed the importance of maximizing the existing squad’s potential to stay competitive.

He highlighted the availability of several internal options to fill the gap but acknowledged that Arsenal would consider a move in the transfer market if the right chance comes along.

“We have many, many options within the squad,” he stated. “But if something extraordinary becomes available and the club is prepared, we’ll explore it.”

Arsenal has a strong history of impactful January signings, such as Jorginho and Leandro Trossard last year, and Martin Odegaard on loan in 2021, giving the club confidence to act if necessary.

Arteta also commented on the recent departure of sporting director Edu, who was instrumental in building Arsenal’s current squad. Jason Ayto has stepped in as interim sporting director, and Arteta expressed trust in the club’s readiness for the transfer window.

“The groundwork is done, and we are prepared to act if needed,” he said. “We didn’t foresee losing both Bukayo and Raheem simultaneously. We anticipated issues in defense, but we are ready to adapt.”

For now, Arteta is focusing on tactical adjustments to cover Saka’s absence. During Arsenal’s 5-1 win over Crystal Palace, Gabriel Martinelli took on the right-wing role. Other players, such as Ethan Nwaneri, Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, and Leandro Trossard, are being considered for the position.

Arteta remains optimistic about finding innovative solutions, stating, “I have some ideas but want to discuss them with the players. This challenge is an opportunity to evolve and try something different.”

He also praised Arsenal’s resilience, referencing how the team has previously managed injuries to key players like Martin Odegaard and several defenders. “We’ll continue to find solutions and tackle this challenge with positivity,” he concluded.
