Liverpool manager Arne Slot has weighed in on the Premier League’s staggering spending trends, specifically addressing Manchester City’s recent decision to offer Erling Haaland a record-breaking ten-year contract extension worth £500,000 per week.
Slot pointed out that Manchester City isn’t alone in its extravagant spending, naming Chelsea and Manchester United as other top-tier clubs investing heavily.
Since 2016, Chelsea has spent a remarkable £2.04 billion, while Manchester City and Manchester United have each invested approximately £1.5 billion.
In comparison, Liverpool has maintained a more conservative approach, spending £940 million over the same period.
Despite the financial gap, Slot expressed strong confidence in Liverpool’s ability to compete with the league’s top spenders.
Slot emphasized that the Premier League’s appeal lies in its fierce competition and high stakes. While Liverpool may not dominate in spending, the manager is confident in the quality of the current squad and remains focused on challenging the league’s financial powerhouses.
