Arsenal’s Need for a Striker: A Reflection and Update
In January, Arsenal’s pressing need for a reliable center-forward became evident. Their lack of a dependable striker during the festive period arguably cost them the Premier League title.
For example, in December, they faced West Ham, dominating with 30 attempts on goal but failing to score and losing the match—a clear sign of their struggles to convert chances into goals.
However, Arsenal’s form improved significantly in the latter half of the season. Competing with Manchester City for the title, they delivered a stunning six-goal performance in their second clash with West Ham.
While they ultimately fell short in their title challenge, finishing second, Arsenal ended the season as the league’s second-highest scorers with 91 goals.
This raises the question: does Arsenal still need a new striker? While the urgency may have diminished, recent reports suggest that the club is still actively pursuing reinforcements in attack.
Arsenal’s Striker Hunt: Recent Developments
Initially, Slovenian forward Benjamin Šeško appeared to be Arsenal’s top target. With a reasonable release clause at RB Leipzig, it seemed the Gunners were in a strong position to secure his signing. However, Šeško is now set to remain in Germany, committing to a new deal with Leipzig.
As a result, Arsenal has turned their attention to Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres, currently playing for Sporting.
Arsenal’s interest in Gyökeres has been known for some time, but reports now suggest their pursuit has intensified. The striker is reportedly “on the verge” of joining the Gunners, indicating that a deal may soon be finalized.
Despite their improved goal-scoring record last season, Arsenal’s inability to maintain consistent finishing under pressure remains a concern.
Securing a reliable forward like Gyökeres could provide the clinical edge they need to convert their chances and strengthen their title ambitions.
