Manchester United have reached a verbal agreement with Italian club Lecce to sign 20-year-old Danish left-back Patrick Dorgu. The deal is valued at €30 million, with an additional €5 million in potential add-ons. The formalities are expected to be completed within the next 24 hours, including document verification and travel arrangements.
Dorgu, who has made 34 appearances for Lecce, scoring two goals and providing one assist, is anticipated to address United’s left-back challenges, especially given the long-term injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. His impressive performances also earned him an international debut for Denmark.
Upon finalizing the transfer, Dorgu will become the first signing under United’s manager, Ruben Amorim. Amorim envisions Dorgu fitting seamlessly into his preferred 3-4-2-1 formation, utilizing the young defender’s capabilities as a wing-back to provide width and depth on the left flank.
Dorgu has expressed his enthusiasm about the move, stating, “Yes, it’s a great opportunity for me,” as he prepared to travel to England for his medical examination. He is expected to be in attendance at Old Trafford for United’s upcoming match against Crystal Palace and could make his debut in the FA Cup against Leicester City.
This acquisition follows United’s recent defensive signings of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt, totaling £102 million, as the club continues to strengthen its squad under Amorim’s leadership.
