Manchester City is preparing a summer transfer move for Bayer Leverkusen stars Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, with a combined valuation of approximately £170 million.
The reigning Premier League champions, who made significant investments in January, are reportedly positioning themselves to secure the highly sought-after duo, despite competition from other elite European clubs.
Wirtz, a 21-year-old attacking midfielder, is regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young talents, having recorded 56 goals and 62 assists in 186 appearances for Leverkusen.
City views him as a potential successor to Kevin De Bruyne, whose contract expires this summer. However, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also reportedly interested in signing him.
Frimpong, a 24-year-old right wing-back, has been on City’s radar for some time, with the club considering re-signing him after selling him to Celtic in 2019.
He has since emerged as one of Europe’s top wing-backs, tallying 28 goals and 43 assists in 175 games for Leverkusen. Liverpool is also monitoring him as a possible replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Despite facing allegations of breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules, Manchester City is pushing ahead with its summer transfer plans.
With the backing of the club’s board, Pep Guardiola is preparing for a significant squad rebuild, with Wirtz and Frimpong as key targets.
