Chelsea Football Club has reportedly maintained ongoing communication with AC Milan regarding the potential summer transfer of goalkeeper Mike Maignan. The 29-year-old French international has been a pivotal figure for Milan since his 2021 move from Lille, amassing over 85 appearances and solidifying his reputation as a top-tier goalkeeper.
During the previous summer transfer window, Chelsea expressed interest in Maignan, making multiple inquiries about his availability. However, AC Milan’s valuation of €80 million (£66.8 million) deterred the London club from advancing negotiations. Despite this, Chelsea’s pursuit of Maignan has persisted, with reports indicating that the club remains in contact with Milan to explore a potential deal.
Maignan’s current contract with AC Milan runs until 2026, and discussions for a contract extension have been underway. The goalkeeper is reportedly content at Milan and may commit his long-term future to the club. Chelsea, on the other hand, continues to seek reinforcements between the posts, having previously signed Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal for €24.5 million. Jorgensen, however, has yet to displace Robert Sanchez as the first-choice goalkeeper under manager Enzo Maresca.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Chelsea’s sustained interest in Maignan suggests that the club is keen on bolstering its goalkeeping options, though it remains to be seen whether they will meet Milan’s valuation or explore alternative targets.
