A leaked report reveals that Ali Barat, Moises Caicedo’s representative, is poised to receive the esteemed ‘Golden Agent Award’ for his role in orchestrating Caicedo’s transfer to Chelsea, surpassing interests from Arsenal and Liverpool.
During the 2023 summer transfer window, Caicedo, aged 22, garnered significant attention not only in the Premier League but also globally. Eventually, he clinched a record-breaking move to Chelsea, with the Blues shelling out an astonishing £100 million upfront plus an additional £15 million in add-ons to Brighton. This made Caicedo the most expensive signing in Premier League history and the third costliest player overall, trailing behind Kylian Mbappe’s move to PSG for £163 million in 2018 and Neymar’s transfer to PSG for £198 million in 2017.
Since his arrival at Chelsea, Caicedo has featured in 14 games, starting in nine Premier League matches. Although he hasn’t made an explosive impact yet, Mauricio Pochettino’s team views him as a midfield project for the long term, evident from the eight-year contract tying him to Chelsea until 2031.
Despite Liverpool’s higher initial offer and attempts to secure Caicedo for £110 million, Chelsea’s owner, Todd Boehly, successfully secured the midfielder, outbidding Liverpool’s proposal.
Arsenal also made a considerable effort during the winter window, offering approximately £70 million for Caicedo, which Brighton rejected. Nonetheless, this move proved beneficial for both sides, as Brighton received a higher transfer fee, while Arsenal shifted their focus to signing Declan Rice.
Upon joining Stamford Bridge, Caicedo expressed his excitement, fulfilling a lifelong dream of becoming a Chelsea player. He expressed admiration for Chelsea icons Makelele and Kante, aspiring to emulate their success and contribute to the club’s achievements.
Due to Caicedo’s substantial rise in value, from a relatively unknown player costing Brighton £4 million in 2021 to becoming a £115 million footballer in just two years, reports from the Liverpool Echo suggest that Barat will be honored with the distinguished Golden Agent award in Turin. Additionally, Barat also represents Nicolas Jackson, who joined Stamford Bridge in the summer for a more modest fee of £32 million.
