Galatasaray, the Turkish club, is considering loaning out Sergio Gomez, a Manchester City left-back. They are keen on returning Angelino, a former City full-back, to RB Leipzig prematurely, ending his loan. Leipzig had paid Galatasaray a £1 million loan fee, and if Angelino made 20 appearances across all competitions, the deal would automatically become permanent for £5 million.
Despite featuring in all six Champions League games for Galatasaray, Angelino has surprisingly fallen out of favor in Istanbul, having reached 19 appearances.
Gomez, hailing from the same country as Angelino, is viewed as a potential replacement should Galatasaray and RB Leipzig strike a deal, although he’s not the sole player under consideration.
Galatasaray is contemplating an initial 18-month loan deal with an option for a permanent transfer for Gomez. He has seen limited action for City this season, starting just three games across various competitions and hasn’t featured in the Premier League since September.
Having joined City for £11 million in August 2022, Gomez has struggled to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup under Pep Guardiola. Guardiola’s preference for a back-three setup has often seen Nathan Ake and Josko Gvardiol deployed ahead of the 23-year-old Spaniard in the left defensive position.
Meanwhile, despite loan interest from several clubs like Lazio, Porto, Benfica, and Ajax, Manchester City intends to retain the emerging talent Oscar Bobb. The 20-year-old forward has made a mark in City’s starting lineup.
Kalvin Phillips, a £42 million signing under Guardiola in 2022, is poised to depart City in January. The English midfielder eyes a move to Juventus on loan with a buyout option, but City seeks an obligation to buy, a condition Juventus hasn’t committed to yet.
Newcastle could be a potential destination for Phillips, aiming for regular game time before the European Championships in the summer. Guardiola hinted at the possibility of seeking a replacement in the transfer market should Phillips opt to leave, emphasizing the complexities of the January transfer window and City’s ongoing objectives.
