Pochettino shouldn’t spend money on signing Kylian Mbappe as the Chelsea 24-year-old forward is currently considered more valuable than Mbappe. Sky journalist Patrick Berger mentioned on Twitter that a Chelsea player has reached an individual agreement for a potential transfer this month.
Berger highlighted that Ian Maatsen and Borussia Dortmund have come to terms, awaiting finalization from both clubs. Maatsen seems to be one of the players Chelsea is willing to offload this month to manage their budget better for 2024. The club might need to sell players to add quality to their squad after their substantial spending in the summer, signing talents like Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer, and Christopher Nkunku.
Maatsen anticipated a chance in the first team after a successful preseason but didn’t make many appearances, despite the Blues accepting a bid from Burnley for him at the end of the summer transfer window.
Although he’s had limited game time under Pochettino, Maatsen and Borussia Dortmund have agreed on terms for a potential transfer. Berger confirmed that Maatsen expressed his interest in joining Dortmund and a personal agreement has been struck between the player and the German club. Chelsea, however, seeks a purchase obligation in any deal, with ongoing discussions.
Despite the left-back’s potential and Chelsea’s left-back injury concerns, Pochettino has surprisingly opted to utilize center-back Levi Colwill in that position rather than Maatsen this season.
