After an investigation by the FA into an incident where it appeared Raheem Sterling threw an object towards Tottenham supporters, no punishment was imposed on the 27-year-old.
A video on Chelsea’s official TikTok showed Sterling seemingly hitting his teammate Cole Palmer’s leg with an object tossed into the crowd after Palmer scored a penalty to equalize in north London. However, Chelsea’s emphatic 4-1 win on Monday night was secured by Nicolas Jackson’s second-half hat-trick.
There was a possibility of Sterling missing Chelsea’s upcoming home game against his former club, Manchester City, or the trip to Newcastle after the international break. Yet, he has been cleared, and no further action will be taken.
Comparatively, Chelsea legend Didier Drogba and Tottenham forward Richarlison have faced suspensions in the past for similar acts.
Before the verdict was announced on Friday, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino discussed the matter during his pre-Manchester City press conference.
“To be honest, I’m concerned, but we haven’t found any evidence. That’s why we’re staying calm and composed,” stated the Chelsea manager.
“We’re hoping it was a non-punitive action. I personally didn’t witness anything on Monday night.”
