Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson has been granted lifetime membership at Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt.
Ferguson’s association with Frankfurt dates back to 1979 when he managed Aberdeen and faced Frankfurt in a UEFA Cup tie, ultimately losing 2-1 on aggregate.
During this season’s Europa Conference League group stage, Frankfurt clashed with Aberdeen again. Before their 2-0 defeat at Pittodrie in December, a delegation from Frankfurt visited Ferguson.
In an interview with Frankfurt’s website, Ferguson reflected on his encounters with Frankfurt during his Aberdeen days, acknowledging their superiority in the matches. He recalled learning an important lesson about player conduct abroad following the games.
As a proud Scotsman and former manager of the Scotland national team, Ferguson is eagerly anticipating Scotland’s Euro 2024 opening match against host nation Germany.
When asked about Scotland’s chances, Ferguson humorously dismissed Germany’s prospects and expressed excitement about watching the game live.
He fondly reminisced about Scottish fans’ enthusiasm and their unique traditions, including wearing kilts, which he finds remarkable. While he won’t be wearing one at the European Championships, he looks forward to enjoying the tournament.
