Recent reports indicate that Victor Osimhen, the forward for Napoli, is poised for a move to the Premier League this summer, despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain. The Nigerian international is expected to leave the Serie A club at the end of the 2023-24 season, with Napoli planning to activate his release clause, valued between €120-130 million.
At 25 years old, Osimhen has emerged as a prime target for Chelsea ahead of the upcoming transfer window. Chelsea is eager to secure a prolific goal-scorer with a strong record in European competitions, aiming to address their inconsistency issues in the number nine position.
The underwhelming performances of Kai Havertz and Timo Werner at Stamford Bridge, along with Nicolas Jackson’s struggles to establish himself as a consistent scorer this season, have intensified Chelsea’s pursuit of Osimhen.
Despite Jackson’s flashes of brilliance, he lacks the predatory instincts demonstrated by Osimhen, making Chelsea’s pursuit understandable.
The possibility of Osimhen joining Chelsea received a significant boost following Matteo Moretto’s recent revelation. Moretto disclosed that Osimhen prioritizes a move to the Premier League over Paris Saint-Germain, despite being linked with the latter.
Although Osimhen has been considered a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe at Paris Saint-Germain, Moretto emphasized that a move to the English top flight seems more plausible for the Napoli star.
In the current Serie A season, Osimhen has showcased his ability with 12 goals and two assists in 19 appearances, along with two goals in the UEFA Champions League.
While Arsenal has also shown interest in Osimhen, reports indicate that Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres is their primary target. Consequently, Chelsea appears to be in the driving seat to secure Osimhen’s services in the upcoming summer transfer window.
