According to reports, Barcelona is reluctant to meet the release clause required to acquire a player from Manchester City this summer.
While they secured a season-long loan for Joao Cancelo and signed Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer in the previous summer window, Barcelona has shown interest in Bernardo Silva, although he is not their top priority.
The £50 million release clause in Silva’s contract is deemed excessive by Barcelona, who believe they must complete other deals before pursuing the 29-year-old.
Xavi, Barcelona’s manager for the upcoming season, still holds Silva in high regard despite failing to secure his signing last summer. Silva, who joined Manchester City for £43 million in 2017, has been a key player, making 349 appearances and contributing significantly with 66 goals and 62 assists across various competitions.
Guardiola values Silva’s intelligence and ball-retention abilities, evident in his frequent appearances this season, including his game-winning goal against Chelsea in the FA Cup semifinal. Barcelona may need to abandon their pursuit of Silva if they are unwilling to meet his release clause.
