After Tottenham’s disappointing 2-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, manager Ange Postecoglou was left fuming, declaring that his team’s performance was “nowhere near good enough.” Despite taking responsibility for the lackluster display, Postecoglou’s frustration was evident as he lambasted his players, particularly Pape Matar Sarr and Cristian Romero, in the first half.

With four games remaining in the season, Tottenham’s defeat leaves them seven points adrift of fourth-placed Aston Villa. Postecoglou’s post-match interview with Sky Sports was tense, as he acknowledged that the team’s performance fell short of expectations. “That’s on me,” he said. “I’m the manager, I’m the one who picked them, and it fell well short of expectations.”

When pressed about where Tottenham went wrong, Postecoglou became visibly agitated, snapping at the interviewer, “Come on, mate. We weren’t good. What do you want? Do you want me to sit here and write a report on our mistakes?” He continued, “I’ll take the blame; as I said, we weren’t good enough. We didn’t deserve anything better.”

Postecoglou emphasized that his outburst was not solely due to conceding goals but rather the team’s attitude and lack of optimism. “It was about our attitude to our play, not about conceding the goal,” he clarified. “Once again, that’s all on me. We were just not good enough, not optimistic enough as we need to be.”

The Tottenham manager also bristled at questions about the team’s repeated struggles with set pieces, shooting back, “That’s a pretty good question. It’s not my priority, but that’s okay. I’ll do my job.” Despite his frustration, Postecoglou remains committed to finding solutions and improving his team’s performance.
