Earlier today, Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, announced his departure from Etihad to join this unexpected European giant.

This week, reports from Germany indicated that Bayern Munich is considering a reunion with former manager Pep Guardiola as they search for a successor to Thomas Tuchel.

After deciding to part ways with Tuchel at the season’s end, interest in Xabi Alonso has diminished, and connections to Manchester United’s Erik Ten Hag have become less reliable with each defeat at Old Trafford.

As a result, speculation emerged in Kicker on Monday suggesting that Guardiola’s former club, Bayern Munich, may be interested in reappointing him this summer. However, the same source also acknowledged that Guardiola has no current plans to leave Manchester City.

By the time his contract expires in the summer of 2025, Guardiola will have completed nine years with City. He has previously emphasized his commitment to honoring contracts and stated that he would not depart from a club before the contract’s expiration unless circumstances compelled him to do so.

Guardiola firmly declared, “I am not leaving this seat,” during his initial news conference following the charges’ announcement last year. He also stressed the importance of allowing City to address their situation appropriately.

Earlier this season, Guardiola reaffirmed this stance, indicating that he would be more inclined to remain at City even if they were relegated from the top division than if they were to repeat as Champions League winners. He emphasized the need to wait for the outcome of proceedings before contemplating his future.

After leading City to a treble last season, Guardiola discussed his future, noting that his feelings had not changed since winning the Champions League. He hinted at a possible contract extension, expressing satisfaction with the club’s achievements and indicating a willingness to continue if the hierarchy and board were satisfied.

As the season progressed, Guardiola made further indications about his intentions to stay, particularly with the Premier League decision looming. Premier League CEO Richard Masters described the decision as “soon,” suggesting it could influence Guardiola’s contract negotiations.

While it remains uncertain whether Guardiola would consider rejoining Bayern after leaving City, he recently expressed interest in managing a national team competing in major tournaments like the European Championship or the World Cup. Guardiola articulated his desire to experience coaching at such international competitions, expressing openness to the opportunity should it arise.
