The defender misses out on making Premier League history as Josko Gvardiol reveals the true circumstances surrounding the penalty incident involving Manchester City.
Star player Josko Gvardiol of Manchester City elaborated on his decision to decline the opportunity to take a penalty against Fulham, despite having previously scored two goals.
Gvardiol has been in exceptional form, contributing goals to propel City closer to securing their fourth consecutive Premier League title.
In his last seven matches, the defender has scored five goals, including two in City’s 4-0 victory over Fulham, which helped them reclaim the top spot in the Premier League.
Instead of seizing the chance to complete a hat-trick from the penalty spot, the former RB Leipzig player passed the ball to the team’s more dependable scorer, Julian Alvarez.
This decision was made even though Gvardiol had the chance to make Premier League history by becoming the first defender to score a hat-trick since the league’s inception.
In response to the incident, he stated to TNT Sport, “I’m pleased to have added two more goals.
Obviously, the penalty came up. I was asked if I wanted to take it, but we already knew who would take it. In the end, Julian scored, and I’m happy about it.”
Gvardiol further commented, “No, it’s nothing out of the ordinary,” regarding his recent unusually prolific goal-scoring form. It’s a common occurrence in sports.
“I’m currently performing well, and the season is nearing its end. We have three more league games left, and our readiness is crucial.”
